Ack.  Work is kicking my ass this week -- today is the ninth of twelve workdays in a row. 

I had to take time out, though to note Tom Snyder's passing.  He will be sorely missed, and I'm firing up a colortini right now.

Weekly World News Shutting Down

American Media has decided to suspend publication of Weekly World News, both the print publication and the web site. No reason was given at press time, although reliable sources do tell us that management turned down at least one offer to buy the publication.

I'm madder than a one-legged man in an ass-kicking contest about this.  (It all started to go downhill when they did away with Serena Sabak, "America's Sexiest Psychic", IMHO.)

Back from vacation.  (boo!)
Glorious weekend in New York upon my return.  (yay!)
Tons of pictures to go through and edit.  (boo!)
Homemade limeade to sip while I edit them.  (yay!)

Hey there.  I know it's been a few days.  Longer than I like to go between updates.

But I'm on vacation.  (Wheee!)

I'm in Eastern Virginia, where so far I have:

• slept really late;
• gone to bed early
• taken several naps;
• hung out a lot with my oldest friend and his wife and daughter, my girlfriend, and my parents;
• taken a couple rides in the boat;
• eaten lots of assorted fresh local seafood including crab, oysters, and some really fresh spot that our neighbor brought over to us;
• cooked and ate some fresh mahi-mahi that our other neighbor brought over to us;
• hung out on the screened-in porch during an electrical storm;
• shot pictures of pretty sunsets; and
• started to get caught up on my leisure reading.

I was having so much fun that I missed the fourth birthday of telescreen.org, which launched on Bastille Day 2003.  Thanks for reading, y'all!

• I liked the NYT's guide to the subway;
• Nina Katchadourian's "Sorted Books" art project is interesting;
• Molecular gastronomy comes to cocktails;
• I'll have an affirmation burger with a side of "I Hate Myself" Fries, please;
• the NYT points out that the (completely ineffectual and (IMHO, IANAL) unconstitutional) NYPD subway searches are still ongoing; and
• you'd think Variety would know how to spell Cary Grant's name.
