Unbelievable.
Unfuckingbelievable.
Check out what Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Sphincter) just said on the Senate floor:
the audacity of some members to stand up and say, how dare you break this rule. It's the equivalent of Adolf Hitler in 1942 saying, 'I'm in Paris. How dare you invade me. How dare you bomb my city? It's mine.' This is no more the rule of the senate than it was the rule of the senate before not to filibuster. It was an understanding and agreement, and it has been abused.
Really? That's what's been abused? Pointing out that the rules are being changed, without the benefit of actually having enough votes to effect said change, is the moral equivalent of murdering six million people and overrunning Europe?
He can say this with a straight face?
As Tapped notes:
I seem to remember a little criticism of MoveOn for briefly hosting an ad that compared a George W. Bush speech to a Hitler speech, and Robert Byrd receiving a little criticism for comparing Republican consolidation of power to 1930s Nazi consolidation of power. So what is going to happen to a leading Republican senator (and probably a presidential candidate) who compares Democrats to Hitler in the middle of World War II? Anybody want to bet against absolutely nothing?
(Video here, but it's getting slammed right now. (Another link to the video. And another.))
ADDENDUM: From the March 3 Pittsburgh Tribune-Review:
"Senator Byrd's inappropriate remarks comparing his Republican colleagues with Nazis are inexcusable," Santorum said in a statement yesterday. "These comments lessen the credibility of the senator and the decorum of the Senate. He should retract his statement and ask for pardon."
