An excellent weekend...the weather cooperated quite nicely, and it was good to relax. (Now if I could just shake the remnants of this cold -- they're hanging on forever.)
On Friday, Chico and I went to our local. As "luck" would have it, it turned out to be karaoke night. So, did we leave? Not on your life. I sucked down Guinness while Chico cut a swath through the room with his dulcet renditions of "Hello Mary Lou", "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love, Babe", and "Sweet Transvestite."
Saturday found me having lunch with B., running a few errands, and then welcoming the arrival of Aine42 and Christyl, monkeys visiting us from Milwaukee and Chicago respectively. Conversation and drinking ensued.
On Sunday, we made up for the lethargy of the previous days. (Kinda.) After a late start, big brunch, and a brief unscheduled return to base, we headed off to the Met and spent time at the marvelous roof garden. (This year, the roof garden is sporting an exhibition by Sol LeWitt. Like the painting, don't like the sculpture.) After a brief swing to Columbus Circle to pick up B., we continued downtown to the Nomadic Museum. Alas, 'twas closing (at 6pm on a Sunday on Memorial Day weekend?), so we had to give the museum a pass. We walked the full length of Hudson River Park down to the Battery, and then rode the Staten Island Ferry to S.I. and back (taking shoutout pictures along the way).
(Oddly enough, the ferry was full of sailors of various nationalities, in town for Fleet Week. Busman's holiday, perhaps?)
We were famished by that point, so off to SoHo/NoLIta we went for some truly spectacular pizza (first in NYC, so they claim) and rice pudding. Then (what else?) more beer before B. and I threw in the towel. (As far as I know, they're still out there.)
I had to work Monday, but only half a day. It was good to get home and spend time with B. during daylight hours. We hung around the house, unpacked some boxes, built an Ikea bookcase and (finally!) our bed. Nice not to have the mattress on the floor anymore. Lotta boxes left to go, though...
Have I mentioned lately how I love the weekend roundups?
