A pretty good weekend. Friday B. came in from CT, and we made some great gazpacho that evening for a post-midnight snack. (Is there anything better than cool, fresh, spicy gazpacho on a hot summer's night? I think not.)
Saturday, we went clothes shopping. It's not my favorite thing in the world to do, but I needed clothes. (And those of you who know me also know that I would definitely benefit from a woman's eye in picking them out.) So hopefully I'll look a little less like a homeless guy in the future. One of our discoveries was that there's a bar and grill at Macy's. (We went to the adjacent cafeteria for dinner.) The idea of going for a beer at Macy's is, I confess, odd to me.
We then met up with my friend Manoj and saw a movie.
Sunday, we slept late. Very late. We had more gazpacho, watched an episode of "The Critic" (my new favorite DVD purchase), then went to Central Park to enjoy the utterly lovely weather. (It was so nice out that it made me wish that my digital camera hadn't died a week ago.) We paused at the entrance, where the Strand had a series of bookstalls set up. (Very dangerous -- B. walked away with four books, I got seven.) We wandered up the Mall, saw Thoth peforming at Bethesda Terrace, crossed the Bow Bridge, wandered the Ramble, sat on a rock by the Lake, and generally had a fantastic time.
After our constitutional, we were hungry, so we strolled down Fifth (dodging horseshit as we went -- what a letdown it must be for guests at the Plaza to spend so much on a hotel room and then walk out to the stench of manure) to Rockefeller Center. We had a good Italian dinner at Alfredo, which was a find: good pastas, a great sauteed steak with a bitter arugula salad, interesting cocktails, very good espresso, and a fantastic dark chocolate souffle for dessert. Then (sigh) off to Grand Central Terminal to put B. on a train; the loneliest part of my week comes when I head back to Queens after saying goodbye, and I always feel a little forlorn as I sit on the N train to Astoria, knowing that B. is at that moment sitting on a Metro-North train rocketing away from me.

"The loneliest part of my week..." That's just so sweet.
